For an agreed amount of $25,000 a 30-year-old male married a Chinese national to circumvent US immigration laws.
Bruce Lee Cruz Aguon on October 15, was named as defendant in the Information for conspiracy to commit marriage fraud in violation of Title 8, USC, Section 1325(c), and did commit an overt act in furtherance of said conspiracy to achieve its objective by receiving money to enter into a civil marriage with a certain Lian Liu, a Chinese national for the purpose of evading the provision of the immigration laws, in violation of Title 18, USC, Section 371.
On that same day he was charged, Aguon filed his plea agreement, admitting to the crime. Aguon married Liu at a civil ceremony on August 26, 2014 at the Mangilao Mayor’s Office. On September 30, 2014, Aguon filed a Petition for Alien Relative with the CIS. On September 10, however, a source reported to law enforcement that Aguon and Liu’s marriage was fraudulent.
During the investigation, Aguon admitted to the Special Agents that he married Liu in order for her to receive a green card with an agreed amount of $25,000. Aguon received $10,000 shortly after the marriage.
The crime carries with it a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment, $250,000 fine, 3-year supervised release, a $100 special assessment.
Aguon was conditionally released on October 20. One of the conditions of his release is for him to avoid contact with Lian Liu, unless under the direction of the HSI agent or his attorney. He is set to appear in court on January 19, 2016 at 2:30 P.M./The Junction News Team
